NECO GCE Registration 2026 is now active. If you are a private candidate planning to sit for the November/December NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE External), commonly called NECO GCE, registration for the 2026 cycle is now open. Here’s everything you need to know about the registration process.
NECO GCE 2026 Registration Dates
Registration opens: July 3, 2026
Registration closes: November 6, 2026
Late registration: A short window is typically allowed after the main deadline, but it attracts a penalty (see fees below).
NECO GCE Registration Fees
Standard registration fee: ₦30,000
This covers the exam registration, the Four-Figure Mathematical Table, and a Waterproof Certificate Jacket/Folder. Stamp duty, service charges, and Remita transaction fees apply on top of this base amount, so budget slightly more than ₦30,000 to be safe.
Late registration fee: An additional ₦5,000 on top of the standard fee if you register after the normal window closes.
All NECO registration fees are non-refundable, so double-check your details before making payment.
Who Can or Cannot Register for NECO GCE 2026
NECO GCE is for private candidates, and these are people who are no longer enrolled in a secondary school but need to sit for NECO, either for the first time or to improve previous grades.
Eligible: School leavers, repeat candidates, and anyone needing to upgrade subject grades.
Not eligible: Current SS3 students in a recognised secondary school. They must register through the SSCE Internal exam, handled by their school, not the GCE portal.

NECO GCE 2026 Subjects
You must register for a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 9 subjects.
English Language is compulsory for every candidate, and Mathematics is required by most tertiary institutions for admission purposes, even though it isn’t always compulsory on the form itself. NECO GCE offers a wide range of subjects (around 29 in total), covering sciences, arts, commercial, and technical/vocational subjects, so you can build a combination that matches your intended course of study.
NECO GCE Rgistration 2026 Biometric Rules: Read Carefully
This is where many candidates make mistakes:
You can create your NECO account and make payment online from your phone or computer. However, the full data entry and biometric capture (fingerprints and photo) must be done in person at a registered cyber café or NECO-accredited registration centre. This step cannot be completed from your home.
Your passport photograph must have a white background and be no older than six months, it will be printed directly on your certificate, so make sure it is clear.
Once your exam centre is selected and your data uploaded, you generally cannot change it, so confirm your centre choice before final submission.
Errors in your name, date of birth, or other bio-data can cost around ₦10,000 to correct after submission, so verify every field carefully, matching your birth certificate or NIN exactly, before you upload.
